HS Social Studies Teacher
Spirit Lake Community School District is seeking an innovative and creative educator to teach High School Social Studies.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Meet certification requirements of the Department of Education, State of Iowa.
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  3. 5-12 World History, 5-12 American History, 5-12 Geography, or 5-12 All Social Sciences and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience teaching high school social studies classes by designing and implementing successful teaching strategies.  A strong classroom manager with progressive teaching and learning ideas.

Middle School Special Education Teacher

The Spirit Lake Community School District is seeking qualified candidates for a Middle School Office Manager. Candidate will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties including, but not limited to, coordination of appointments, database management, records management, data reporting and report preparation, and ensuring that all essential office functions are performed in a complete, accurate, timely and confidential manner. Co-Director of Business & Finance:

The Spirit Lake Community School District is located in the heart of the beautiful Iowa Great Lakes.  This area is widely known for its amenities and incredible opportunities that it provides.  Spirit Lake is a family friendly community which has available a variety of year-round activities for all ages. The progressive school district, which serves approximately 1300 students, was amongst the first to successfully implement a one to one initiative in grades K-12. 

Our district is seeking a Co-Director of Business & Finance with the following:  

  • Strong written and verbal communication and business management skills.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.

Candidate Qualifications Include:

  • Iowa School Business Official authorization or the ability to receive the authorization (*see below)
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting or related area preferred.
  • Experience as an Iowa Public School Business Official or similar field preferred, with thorough understanding of Uniform Financial Accounting, governmental GAAP accounting, state and federal reporting, and statutory compliance concepts.

*If not currently licensed as a School Business Official with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, rules for obtaining licensure include the following:

  • Initial (2-year license):
    • Associates degree in business or accounting (which includes 9 hours of accounting) OR 60 semester hours of coursework in business or accounting (which includes 9 hours of accounting)

  • Temporary Initial (1-year license):
    • Associates degree in business or accounting (which includes 6 hours of accounting) OR 60 semester hours of coursework in business or accounting (which includes 6 hours of accounting)

Compensation will be a highly competitive salary/benefit package, based upon qualifications and experience.

Half-time HS Agriculture/FFA

Spirit Lake Community School District is seeking a half-time agriculture instructor and FFA advisor to continue building existing program.  Position will require assisting students plan, develop and conduct agriculture experiences in horticulture, agriculture leadership, plant science, aquaculture and other agriculture topics appropriate to student occupational goals.  Candidate should be a visionary, creative educator with effective teaching strategies, a commitment to student learning, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. 

 Agriculture Education Certification required.
